Amid all the excitement of our TRAILFLY G 270 V2 launch, we took the time to sit down (yes, we’re not always out running!) and answer your questions about the new trail running shoe.
The TRAILFLY G 270 V2 is the successor to the hugely popular TRAILFLY G 270, which won four ‘Trail Running Shoe of the Year’ awards in 2020.

The TRAILFLY G 270 V2 has been improved to give a better fit, greater comfort, and longer-lasting durability.
A redesigned upper includes greater stretch and breathability in the forefoot, while a more cushioned slimline tongue further enhances the fit and comfort as the miles stack up. The new lightweight mesh material used to make the upper has been laboratory tested and is proven to be 25% more durable than its predecessor on the V1.
The rest of the magic formula remains untouched, ensuring runners continue to feel connected to the trail and propulsive through every stride. This includes the super-tough 4mm Graphene-enhanced G-GRIP rubber lugs, the snappy POWERFLOW MAX foam cushioning, the super-springy BOOMERANG footbed, and the fast-feel zero-drop positioning.

Your common questions answered
What are the main differences between the original TRAILFLY G 270 and the new V2?
The differences are all in the upper of the V2 (Version 2) shoe. The outsole and midsole remain the same as the V1. The changes made to the upper improve the durability, fit and comfort of the shoe:
- The main mesh material used across the upper is new. It has proven in laboratory testing to be 25% more durable than that on the V1, while still being light and flexible. This – combined with the super-tough Graphene rubber outsole – helps runners get more miles out of their shoes.
- The four overlay strips on both sides of the shoe, which provide support and hold for the foot, have been repositioned further back on the upper, away from the forefoot. This allows greater stretch and breathability across the forefoot (the widest part of the foot).
- A new form-fitting tongue with improved padding creates a better hold in the midfoot, while giving extra cushioning and comfort for the top of the foot under the laces.
How much more durable is the new V2?
The main mesh material used across the upper is new. It has proven in laboratory testing to be 25% more durable than that on the V1, while still being light and flexible. The outsole rubber used is Graphene-enhanced. Graphene is the world’s strongest material and imparts this strength into the rubber to make it 50% harder wearing. Some runners – including our athlete Damian Hall – get 1000+ miles of running out of their TRAILFLY G 270 shoes.
Is the shoe still one of the widest fitting in the range?
Yes, the TRAILFLY G 270 V2 is measured as a 5 on our 1-5 width scale (5 being widest). This measurement is taken across the width of the toe box. It allows the toes extra comfort, while the heel and midfoot remain nicely locked in. Indeed, our repositioning of the overlays on the upper of the V2 also allow greater stretch and breathability across the forefoot, which is the widest part of the foot.

Is the shoe still zero drop?
Yes, it is still a zero-drop shoe, meaning the differential between the heel and forefoot is 0mm. This keeps the foot level, rather than being raised at the heel – thus promoting the best natural form and allowing the largest range of motion in the ankle joint. The overall stack heights of 22mm in the heel and forefoot help give optimum underfoot cushioning and protection while ensuring a responsive, trail-connected ride.
Has the cut of the ankle changed from the V1 to the V2?
Yes, a small change has been made to slightly lower and improve the ankle cut. Also, extra heel padding has been added. Together, these increase both the comfort and hold within the rear of the shoe.

The repositioned overlays on the upper of the V2 (front of photo) gives more stretch and breathability to the forefoot area versus that on the older V1 (back of photo)
Is the BOOMERANG insole still included in the shoe?
Yes, the much-loved BOOMERANG is still in there. This footbed features hundreds of expanded TPU beads that compress and spring back for 40% more energy return – and greater cushioning – than standard insoles. Retains its 6mm thickness and optimum performance level for longer, while wicking away unwanted moisture.
Is this the new version of the old Terra-Ultra?
Yes. We changed the name of the shoe to TRAILFLY G 270 in 2022. The shoe remained exactly the same, the only difference was the name and some colours. The TRAILFLY G 270 V2 is the updated version, with the improvements to the upper enhancing durability, fit and comfort.
What is the weight of the new version?
The average weight across the size curve remains 270g.
How does the fit compare to the older version?
A new form-fitting tongue with improved padding creates a better hold in the midfoot, while giving extra cushioning and comfort for the top of the foot. The four overlay strips on both sides of the shoe, which provide support and hold for the foot, have been repositioned further back on the upper. This allows greater stretch and breathability across the forefoot (the widest part of the foot).
What’s the grip like on wet rock?
The grip on wet rock should preform very similarly to the V1. The outsole packs plenty of flex (via the special groves) which helps give that feeling of moulding to the terrain and gripping it tight.
What running distance is this shoe built for?
The shoe has been proven to be used for everything! From a fast 5k on the trails or a social run out up to ultramarathons and more. It does the lot!

What terrain can I run on in this shoe?
The outsole on this shoe is suited perfectly for hard-packed trails that can be loose or firm and of all gradients. The 4mm studs bite into the trail giving confident-boosting grip. The shoe has also been proven to hold its own on other terrains too, including softer ground and roads too.
Does this shoe still feature Graphene?
Yes, the outsole still features the use of Graphene-enhanced rubber, giving you ‘The World’s Toughest Grip.’ Graphene is the world’s strongest material and imparts this strength into the rubber to make it 50% harder wearing.
What is the stack height of the shoe?
The overall stack heights (everything from the bottom of the outsole to the top of the insole) are 22mm in the heel and forefoot. This helps give optimum underfoot cushioning and protection while ensuring a responsive, trail-connected ride. The stack heights when measuring JUST the midsole are 12mm in both the heel and forefoot.
What is the lug depth?
The lugs (or studs) each measure 4mm. These multi-directional 4mm deep lugs have been meticulously shaped and positioned to prevent debris from sticking to the outsole, while water dispersion channels and rubber dimples give extra grip on wet surfaces.
